1955 Pulp and Paper mill and town established.


1955 Fletcher Timber company had small estate locally.


1961 Purchased Duffy farm and Morgans block, commenced planting in valley. Tasman Pulp and Paper division managed the forest establishment.


1963 to 1966 Initiated discussions with Maori land owners to amalgamate ownership and create a forest.


1967 Passed Tarawera Forests act to facilitate ownership, combined land under ownership of Tasman Pulp and Paper, Maori interests and the Crown.


1968 Maori Investments Ltd set up to represent multiple owners of land in Tarawera Forests Ltd.


1975 Commenced building Farm road to better access forest.


1981 Amalgamation of parts of Challenge corporation, Tasman Pulp and Paper, Fletcher Forests, Kaingaroa Logging Company to become Fletcher Challenge Limited. All forestry divisions amalgamated into Tasman Forestry.


1981- 1983 Building McKee road

1987 Clearfell commenced


1988 – 1989 Rationalization of ownership, Tasman gained Matahina and Tahorakuri forest, lost forests around Kinleith, net increase approx 23000 hectares.


1990 Expansion in Nelson, Tasman purchased cutting rights to ex state forests.


1993 Fletcher Challenge set up letter stocks, split company into separate divisions, Tasman Forestry becomes Fletcher Challenge Forests, FCF.

1996 FCF had major expansion, purchased cutting rights to Kaingaroa, Rotoehu, Whaka, Whirinaki as Central North Island Forest Partnership with two others, Brierleys and CITIC. Sold off interest in East coast and South island forests.


1998 Internal restructure, many staff changes, ceased to occupy office at Waterhouse street.


2001 CNIFP placed in receivership by banks, FCF kept on as manager, CITIC partner not happy.


2003 July, receiver has set up new management company to run CNIFP.


2003 September FCF announces sale of all the estate left, no longer wishes to be a forest owner.


February 2004 Entire estate sold to Kiwi Group, 4 wealthy business men from Auckland.


February 2004 Approx 60% of cutting rights immediately onsold to Prudential a Timber Investment Management Organisation “TIMO”, who intend to use PF Olsen as manager.


June 2004 Remaining 40% of estate cutting rights including Tarawera forest sold to Hancock Natural Resources Group of Boston, another TIMO, the investors call their new purchase “Tiaki Plantations Company”


December 2004 Staff managing Tiaki Plantations company are offered salary jobs to become Hancock Forest Management NZ Limited.


August 2005 Hancock Forest Management NZ Limited continue to manage Tiaki Plantation Company.
